Challenge Par

"Proper practice builds confidence."

Practice is what makes you better. Proper practice makes you even better and builds confidence. Practice what you normally wouldn't, hit shots you never would on the course. Try hitting low shots, high shots, straight shots, hit some fades, draws, slice and hook shots on purpose. Find uneven lies, hit out of divot holes, find tall grass, short grass, hard ground, wet ground. It builds confidence.

Always practice your short game, putting and chipping. Everybody wants to hit the ball long but the most important thing you can practice is your short game. It has to be very good if you want to challenge par.

Rain, wind, cold or hot practice in all kinds of weather conditions. You need to know how these conditions affect your swing, how the ball reacts in the air and on the ground. Knowing these helps you when you get in that situation on the course playing.

Take your time and practice with INTENT. I see people on the range hitting balls and there rarely is any intent on where they want the ball to go. Golf is a target game so we should practice picking a target and hitting it there INTENTIONALLY.

Practice the fundamentals of the golf swing.

  • Grip
  • Stance
  • Posture
  • Ball position
  • Aim and alignment

Practice your pre shot routine. If you don't have a pre shot routine I suggest you work on getting one and practice it so you can take it on the course. Your pre-shot routine is like your best friend it is there to rely on when you need it most. Make it a part of your practice on the range. Don't hit a practice shot without first doing a routine.
